Calligraphy: Uncial Hand

Instructor: Christine Tischer
Description: This historic calligraphy hand of the 4th to 8th centuries developed out of Greek writing into Latin letters. The style is round forms without joins. Formed mostly as an alphabet of capital letters, the extensions of some letters led to the minuscules and majuscules and eventually to what we call upper and lower case letters. However, uncial is without separate capitals. We will use a straight edge pen held at a flattened angle. Tuition includes all supplies. NOTE: Left-handed students may wish to consult with Delaplaine staff about modifications before enrolling.
