A Deeper Art Education Experience
The High School Art Club at the Delaplaine is a school-year-long afterschool program for students who seek a deeper art education experience. Club members will benefit from a peer-oriented visual arts environment, where they can create new artwork, work on in-progress school or personal projects, discuss long-term goals, learn from professional artists, and more. The program will culminate in a group exhibition of the club’s artwork, which members will curate and design.
Members
Club members are current high school students (grades 9–12, public, private, or homeschool) who are interested in pursuing higher education and/or a career in the arts, students who seek a challenging art education experience, and/or students who thrive in an artistic environment with like-minded, goal-oriented peers. The club will have no more than about 15 members at a time.
Commitment & Communication
Due to the nature of this program, regular attendance is expected. The work created each month is cumulative and will be included in the club’s end-of-year exhibition. If your student is unable to come to a club meeting, please notify Jillian MacMaster as soon as possible. Your dedication to the club is appreciated.
Club members will be added to a Google Group, where important messages and information will be shared. Please make sure to provide the student’s email address in the attendee information section at registration. (Note that a Google email address is not required to join a Google Group.)
Schedule
The club meets 3:30–5:15 pm twice a month, every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, September through May, except FCPS Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks.
In the 2026–27 school year, these sessions are: Sep 10, Sep 24, Oct 8, Oct 22, Nov 12, Dec 10, Jan 14, Jan 28, Feb 11, Feb 25, Mar 11, Apr 8, Apr 22, May 13, May 27.
The club will be visited by a guest artist each month.
Cost
Club dues for the full year is $100, which covers the cost of guest artists and shared art supplies.
Members supply their own portfolio or carrying case for their artwork and sketchbook. (If you don’t have a sketchbook, the Delaplaine will supply a small spiral-bound one.)
The Delaplaine provides a variety of supplies, but members are also welcome to bring their own preferred medium.
