Artobus: Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens

Instructor: staff
Description: Join us on a visit to Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, a decorative arts museum nestled in the hills of Northwest Washington, DC. It is the former residence of Marjorie Merriweather Post and is particularly known for its Romanov decorative arts collection, including two Fabergé eggs, and 18th- and 19th-century French art, as well as its formal gardens. • The bus will be depart Frederick promptly at 9:00 am, and we expect to return around 5:00 pm. • Fee includes deluxe motor coach transportation and snacks on the bus. • You are invited to leisurely explore the mansion, gardens, special exhibition and greenhouse at your own pace. Please plan to bring headphones or earbuds in order to listen to the audio tour on your device. More information about the audio tour is available on Hillwood's website (https://hillwoodmuseum.org/). • The special exhibit on display during our visit will be "From Exile to Avant-garde: The Life of Princess Natalie Paley." More information is available on Hillwood's website. • Most of the gardens and mansion are wheelchair and walker accessible. Volunteers will be happy to share photos and discuss inaccessible areas. If this is of interest, please let us know in advance. • Lunch will be on your own. You may dine in Merriweather Cafe (reservations recommended), pick up lunch from Merriweather To Go, or bring your lunch and picnic at the estate. More information is available on Hillwood's website. • Space is limited, and registration is first-come, first-served. • You will receive information regarding parking and the trip itinerary at least one week prior to the bus trip. • Questions? Accessibility requirements? Please email Corey Frey, our Exhibitions Manager, at cfrey@delaplaine.org. • For more information about Hillwood, visit their website: https://hillwoodmuseum.org/.
