Portrait Drawing in Charcoal

Instructor: Lesa Cook
Description: This class will begin by discussing the anatomy and planes of the head, then work from a different live model each session to create a charcoal drawing. Techniques of charcoal drawing will be discussed, and examples of charcoal portraits by such artists as Kollwitz, Sargent, and others will be looked to for inspiration. Creating a value study, tips for blending, choosing the right paper, and making your own charcoal are just a few of the things we will explore in class. Previous drawing experience is recommended.
