Sculpting the Portrait from the Inside Out

Instructor: Lesa Cook
Description: Develop a deeper understanding of the anatomy and form of the head while sculpting a portrait bust using ceramic clay. Begin by using a plaster skull as a reference to create a clay version, then work from a live model to add features, expression, and gesture. Learn about the properties of clay, use of tools, and preparation for kiln firing. Instruction will include demonstrations, presentations, and individual instruction. Previous experience drawing or sculpting the face is recommended. Tuition includes model fees, all supplies, and firing, but students are welcome to bring any clay carving tools they may already have.
