Beginning Jewelry

Instructor: Georgina Copanzzi
Description: As you focus on the fundamentals of jewelry fabrication, you will create a forged cuff or form-folded bracelet, fold-formed or hammered earrings, and a chain necklace. You will explore techniques such as piercing, drilling, sawing, stamping, annealing, and simple soldering. Ideal for the new or novice jeweler, this class will emphasize safety, tool mastery, and skill development while supporting students through the completion of original jewelry pieces. Open to students age 16 and older. REQUIRED: Studio waiver (provided in class), safety glasses, disposable foam earplugs, and ventilated respirator. NOTE: Copper and sterling silver sheet and wire are available for purchase at The Delaplaine. Students will need the following supplies to complete projects: (1) 6x12in 18-gauge copper sheets, dead soft; 6x6in 20-gauge copper sheet, dead soft; (20ft) 16-gauge copper wire, dead soft; and (2ft) 20-gauge sterling silver wire, dead soft.
