Weaving on a Simple Frame Loom

Description:	This workshop meets Saturday, September 22; Sunday, September 23; & Saturday September 29 from 11:30am - 4pm. Learn the vocabulary and basic techniques of tapestry weaving using a simple, portable frame loom that you'll make and keep! Students will use yarns of different weights, colors, and fiber content to create a woven sampler. Techniques include plain weave, columns and shapes, vertical stripes, and rya knots. Students will assemble and prep their own loom on day 1 and begin with plain weave; expand their skills on day 2; and return day 3 to finish and remove their samplers from the loom, as well as prep for a future weaving. Each day will include discussion with time for Q&A. A variety of woven works will be presented to provide insight on techniques, materials, and expression. Tuition includes some supplies. Students should bring the following SUPPLIES: Small hammer; pen and paper; any yarn of your own that you'd like to use in your sampler; an old beach towel or bath towel; snacks and water bottle to keep you going and comfortable; and a clamp light for your workspace (optional).
