Sculpting the Figure and Portrait 18-4-SC1

Description: Develop a deeper understanding of anatomy, gesture, form, and proportion from direct observation of the human figure. Students will complete a figure sculpture and a portrait bust, while learning about the properties of clay, proper use of tools, and preparation for kiln firing. Class will include demonstrations, presentations, and individual instruction. Sculptures completed in class will be fired at The Delaplaine for pick up at a later date. Students will receive email notification when sculptures are ready for pick up. Students should bring: any clay carving tools you may already have; newspapers; 2 large trash bags; plastic wrap; masking tape; an old toothbrush; and a roll of paper towels. Students under age 18 must provide written permission to work from a nude model. Open to all levels. Tuition includes models fees, clay, and firing.
