Drawing & Painting Through History

Description: Learn how and why artists worked throughout history to expand your knowledge and develop new skills. Students will complete drawing and painting projects inspired by historic artworks and techniques. Each week, an art movement or period in history will be introduced with a brief talk about artists working at that time. Students will explore topics such as the Palaeolithic cave paintings at Lascaux, France; medieval painting; Romanticism; the Renaissance (1- and 2-point perspective); Impressionism; and early 20th century art (Cubism moving into Abstract Expressionism.) Geared for ages 12-16. Students should bring a pencil, eraser, and sketchbook (8.5x11 inches). Tuition includes all other supplies.
