Intermediate Painting with Lee Newman

Description: Continue to hone your painting skills under the guidance of instructor Lee Newman in this course. Students will paint from a variety of types of still life as well as a clothed figure, with the goal of exploring how color works to create light and form. We'll study the still lifes of painters whose paintings emphasized color such as van Gogh and Bonnard. The class will have individual and group critiques, a few demonstrations and several short art history talks. Students should bring the following SUPPLIES: Vine charcoal; disposable palette (9x12 or larger); 5 brushes of different sizes; canvases (stretched, canvas board, or paper) in several sizes (9x12 to 16x20); Acrylic or oil paints: Titanium white, hansa or cad yellow, yellow ochre, napthol red or cad red medium, alizarin crimson, raw or burnt umber, viridian or thalo green, cerulean or manganese or primary blue, ultramarine blue.
