Description: Learn the art of "Pysanky" or wax-resist egg decoration. Traditionally involving the application of hot wax with a stylus, Pysanky often feature folk designs in geometric, plant, animal, and symbolic motifs. Instructor Joanna Lohr, who has also led classes at the Smithsonian Institution, will lead students through the egg waxing and dyeing process, emphasizing proper technique and encouraging individual design. Tuition includes supplies, and no experience is necessary. Each student will decorate 4 to 6 eggs. Wear a smock with sleeves you can roll up, and bring an empty egg carton to take your eggs home. Open to students age 14 to adult. Students age 12–13 may enroll with a registered adult.
