Class

Painting the Self Portrait: Oil on Copper

Instructor: Lesa Cook
Description: Work from a mirror or photo to create a self-portrait in the tradition of Rembrandt! Copper was commonly used as a canvas for oil painting in the early 16th century. Recently revived as a substrate, it is both stable and has a beautiful reflective quality. You will experience painting in oil on copper plates, learning how to prepare the surface for painting and how to use thin layers of glazing to achieve a luminosity. This is an intermediate class and is recommended for those who have experience with oil painting.
