Printing Without a Press: Gelatin Workshop with Linda Slattery Sherman

Instructor: Linda Slattery Sherman
Description: This workshop meets Saturday, October 20 from 10am-4pm. Learn to print without using a press! All you need is a gelatin plate, paint or ink, and the pressure of your hand. Gelatin plates look and feel like gelatin, but are durable, reusable, and store at room temperature. Students will experiment with a variety of water-based mediums, taking notice of the differences, while learning to print in layers using textures, lines, and shapes. Experiment with different papers to make finished prints or materials you can use in collage. The emphasis is on freedom of making prints without fear of making mistakes! Tuition includes supplies. Students should bring a roll of paper towels and a smock or apron. Optional: students may bring household items to make lines and textures, such as stencils, brushes, string, leaves, rubber or foam stamps, bubble wrap, shelf liner, potato masher, paper clips, burlap, spatula.
