More Soldering, Torch Work, & Stone Setting

Description: Explore texturing, soldering, and metal forming in this class geared for intermediate and advanced jewelers. Students will learn about the elasticity and properties of metal, and how to incorporate stones into their designs. Class includes demos on metal piercing, forming, and soldering different metals together, as well as discussions on variations. Students will complete the following projects: 1) Hot Twist Bracelet; 2) Three Color Metal Marriage Earrings; and 3) Water Casting. Prerequisite: Beginning Jewelry I or equivalent. Prior oxy/propane torch experience required. Students enrolled in jewelry classes must be 17 or older. Students will need the following supplies to complete each project: 1) Hot Twist Bracelet: 1 inch sterling silver rectangular wire (8 x 1.5mm), 1 inch round copper wire (14-ga). Est. value $30. 2) Three Color Metal Marriage Earrings: 2x2 inch copper sheet (20-ga); 2x2 inch sterling silver sheet (20-ga); 2x2 inch brass sheet (20-ga); earring wires OR 6 inch round wire (20-ga). Est. value $20. 3) Water Casting: 1 oz sterling silver casting grains (est. $22) or clean scraps.
