Visual Journals

Instructor: David Modler
Description: Learn how to develop and maintain a visual journal practice of your own. Experiment with drawing, painting, collage, image transfers, and other mixed media techniques to construct a personal document of your everyday life. Students will: create personally meaningful work while exploring self-directed themes; experiment with a wide variety of drawing, painting, and collage processes; explore layering using image transfer processes; and experiment with paper manipulation in cutting, folding, and tearing. Activities will include guided and independent practice. Instructor led demonstrations will introduce participants to a variety of materials and techniques. Focus will be placed on forging personal themes and independent lines of inquiry to explore materials and process. Students should bring a hard bound sketchbook (11x14 inches). NOTE: Visual Journal Starter Kits will be available for purchase at The Delaplaine ($25).
