2025 Slate of Nominees
For Election to the Board of Trustees (two-year terms)
Molly Carlson, Ph.D.
Molly is Associate Vice President/Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at Frederick Community College. She holds licensures and certifications in IFTF Foresight Essentials from Institute for the Future and Intercultural Development Inventory Administration and is recipient of the Girl Scout Gold award. She has experience in charter school governance, and has backgrounds in arts administration, event management, and higher education. Molly is a former Delaplaine Board member and past chair of the Board Development Committee.
Jon Cohen
Jon is the owner of Beyond Comics, located in Frederick and Gaitherburg. He has a background in computer graphics and business, is a graduate of Leadership Frederick, and is a member of the Frederick Chamber of Commerce. Jon has served on several community and industry boards in various capacities, including the Woodspring Community Board in New Market, SPX (Small Press Expo), and the Gaithersburg/Germantown Chamber of Commerce. Jon explains that he comes “from a business community that prides itself on thinking outside of the box, which should bring a bit of a different perspective to the board,” and that his “28 years of owning a small niche business in Maryland…brings practical knowledge and experience.” Jon taught a class at the Delaplaine in the past.
Chris Eliff
Chris is a working artist and a Registered Nurse living in Frederick. She is on the board of TAG (The Artists Gallery) in Frederick, serving on its marketing committee. Chris states: “I’m looking forward to this challenge and would consider it an honor to work with the board at the Delaplaine. I will bring a passion for working with and learning from others. If excitement is a skill, I definitely bring that as well.” Chris has participated in several Delaplaine exhibitions over the years.
Kate Kuranda
Kate is a court-qualified architectural historian and is Senior Vice President at R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates in Frederick where she directs the architectural history and history programs. She is active in the community and is a former long-time member of the Frederick Public Art Commission and a current member of the Women’s Giving Circle. Kate is a former Delaplaine Board member and past Chair.
Curran (Currie) Powers
Currie is an art educator at The Friends Meeting School in Frederick, where he has taught for 28 years. He has served as the faculty representative on the school’s board, as well as its head-of-school search, wind turbine feasibility, scheduling, spiritual life, and strategic planning committees. He is a multi-media artist and woodworker. Currie states: “I love problem-solving and collaborating with others. I love Frederick and its vibrant arts community and have a passion for promoting the arts.” Currie has displayed student artwork in the Delaplaine’s Community Art Gallery for many years.
