This class will begin by discussing the anatomy and planes of the head, then work from a live model each session to create a charcoal drawing. Techniques of charcoal drawing will be discussed, and examples of charcoal portraits by such artists as Kathe Kollwitz, John Singer Sargent, and others will be looked to for inspiration. Creating a value study, tips for blending, choosing the right paper, and making your own charcoal are just a few of the things we will explore in class.
Previous drawing experience is recommended.
