This class is a bridge from drawing to painting, or a refresher course for oil painters. Explore value, perspective, and color, and make the transition to painting, learning about the fundamentals of working with oil paints in the process.
Please bring the following materials to class:
- Variety of canvases or other surfaces in small sizes (such as 8×10 up to 16×20)
- Small canvas paper for grayscale, value studies
- Sketchbook
- Oil paints – suggested colors:
- Cadmium red, yellow and orange
- Alizarin Crimson
- Phthalo green and blue
- Ultramarine blue
- Titanium white
- Ivory black
- Charcoal or pencil
- Kneaded rubber eraser
- Artist’s tape
- Paper towels
- Wet wipes
- Brushes in a variety of sizes and shapes (flats, filbert, round); some stiff bristle brushes and some soft brushes
- Wet erase markers
- Small palette knife with pointed tip
- Palette and storage container – recommended: Masterson
- Ruler
- Reference photos, printed in color on 8.5 x 11 paper
- Notebook and pen/pencil for taking notes
- Optional:
- Mineral Spirits + jar
- Color Wheel
- Gloves
