This rich, dense lettering has the texture of formal Blackletter styles, but has more in common with the branching of the Italic hand. However, it is very different from the Italic writing of the classical Renaissance of 15th Century Italy as it is more lively and has an almost contemporary feel with the pointed O. It can be beautiful and expressive for poems or quotations that suit this pointed arch which reminds us of the upward thrust of Gothic architecture.
