Get down to the fundamentals of art and make works of art that emphasize complementary and secondary colors\, different types of lines\, and fun textures. \nRegistration is by month only\, space is limited\, and pre-registrations are required. Tuition includes all supplies. \nLimited classroom assistant positions are available at no charge for teens ages 12 to 14 who have younger sibling enrolled. Teen assistants are expected to help all of the students as needed\, keep materials tidy as much as possible\, hand out supplies\, etc.

DESCRIPTION:Mixed media \nA collection of recent work by Montreal artist James Gardner\, this exhibition continues his task of reinterpreting religious imagery through the lens of Western esotericism. Looking to the iconography of martyrdoms and the depictions of saints\, Gardner’s recent work traces the historical iterations and mutations of these images while attempting to link their symbolism with myth and personal resonances. Through the activity of painting\, common or even mundane images continually evolve to help in processes that reclaim the “symbolic imaginal” and animate new forms of knowledge and experience.

Tuition includes up to 25 lbs. of clay; access to tools\, pottery wheels\, and glazes; as well as firing of completed work. \nPrerequisite: wheel throwing classes\, knowledge of cone 6 clay\, and understanding of glazes and glaze application. \nPlease note: \n\nStudio tools will be available for your use\, but you are welcome to bring your own.\nPlease plan to have your work completed and ready for glaze firing by the end of the course. Delaplaine staff will contact you to pick up your finished pieces after they have been fired.\nThe studio is not available to students outside of class time.

DESCRIPTION:Travel with us to Charlottesville\, Virginia\, to visit two impressive art repositories at the University of Virginia.  \nThe Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection is the only museum outside of Australia dedicated to the exhibition and study of Indigenous Australian art. Our group will have guided tours of their exhibitions and go behind the scenes on a tour of the collections. \nThe Fralin Museum has a collection of works from across the globe that enriches student life\, enlivens Charlottesville\, and inspires those near and far. This portion will be a self-guided experience. \n\nSpace is limited\, and registration is first-come\, first-served.\nFee includes motor coach transportation and snacks on the bus.\nThe bus will be depart Frederick promptly at 7:00 am\, and we expect to return around 6:00 pm.\nLunch will be on your own at one of the many restaurants near The Fralin Museum of Art.\nYou will receive information regarding parking and the trip itinerary in your confirmation and reminder emails.\nQuestions?
