SUMMARY:Contemporary Innovations: James Gardner – Of Verses\, Vines\, and Venerators
DESCRIPTION:Mixed media \nA collection of recent work by Montreal artist James Gardner\, this exhibition continues his task of reinterpreting religious imagery through the lens of Western esotericism. Looking to the iconography of martyrdoms and the depictions of saints\, Gardner’s recent work traces the historical iterations and mutations of these images while attempting to link their symbolism with myth and personal resonances. Through the activity of painting\, common or even mundane images continually evolve to help in processes that reclaim the “symbolic imaginal” and animate new forms of knowledge and experience. \nJames will discuss his history as an artist and teacher and the work in his exhibition at the Oct 3 Art Matters Artist Talk.

Each class\, there will be a demo highlighting a specific technique to be applied to new projects. \nPrerequisite: wheel throwing classes\, knowledge of cone 6 clay\, and understanding of glazes and glaze application. \nTuition includes up to 25 lbs. of clay; access to tools\, pottery wheels\, and glazes; as well as firing of completed work. \nPlease note: \n\nStudio tools will be available for your use\, but you are welcome to bring your own.\nPlease plan to have your work completed and ready for glaze firing by the end of the course. Delaplaine staff will contact you to pick up your finished pieces after they have been fired.\nThe studio is not available to students outside of class time.\nThere will be no class on November 25.

DESCRIPTION:Join other homeschoolers to dive into a different artist\, method\, or medium of art! By the end of each month\, you’ll have completed works of art for your homeschool portfolio. This month: Learn about printmaking and mark-making. Students will explore creating prints with foam plates\, gelli plates\, cardboard collagraphs\, and more. \nRegistration is by month only\, space is limited\, and pre-registrations are required. Tuition includes all supplies. \nLimited classroom assistant positions are available at no charge for teens ages 12 to 14 who have younger sibling enrolled. Teen assistants are expected to help all of the students as needed\, keep materials tidy as much as possible\, hand out supplies\, etc.

Brady Robinson is a Baltimore-based photographer and creative director known for her vibrant and eclectic mix of fine art photography\, cultural documentation\, and portraits of creatives.
