DESCRIPTION:Professor\, researcher\, and curator Dr. Henry Skerritt joins us for a talk on the history and influence of our winter Artist of Inspiration\, Nonggirrnga Marawili\, a celebrated Australian Yolngu painter and printmaker. \nHenry Skerritt is Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Curator of Research at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia. His research centers on the engagement of Indigenous peoples with the institutions of art\, with a particular methodological focus on the role of Indigenous communities in curating their own art histories. He has worked on over twenty exhibitions in the United States and Australia. \nFREE

DESCRIPTION:Join us on a visit to The Phillips Collection\, a century-old collection of modern and contemporary art originally founded by Duncan Phillips and housed in his former home in Washington\, DC. Following Phillips’s unconventional approach to exhibitions\, galleries are frequently rearranged to facilitate new conversations between artworks and fresh experiences for visitors. On view during our visit will be “Out of Many: Reframing an American Art Collection\,” a special exhibition of how various artists have imagined and depicted the people\, cultures\, landscapes\, and histories of the United States\, with works on loan from Howard University and the University of Maryland. \n\nSpace is limited\, and registration is first-come\, first-served.\nFee includes deluxe motor coach transportation\, special exhibit tickets\, and snacks on the bus. NOTE: If you are a member of The Phillips Collection\, please let us know\, as members receive discounted special exhibit tickets.\nThe bus will be depart Frederick promptly at 9:00 am\, and we expect to return around 5:00 pm.\nA limited number of wheelchairs is available at the coat check.\nLunch will be on your own.
