DESCRIPTION:Independently refine ceramics skills and bring your personal visions to life in a supportive open studio environment. Students are encouraged to bring in ideas for projects and will receive as much or as little assistance as needed. Each class\, there will be a demo highlighting a specific technique to be applied to new projects. Tuition includes up to 25 lbs. of clay; access to tools\, pottery wheels\, and glazes; as well as firing of completed work. \nPrerequisite: wheel throwing classes\, knowledge of cone 6 clay\, and understanding of glazes and glaze application. \nPlease note: \n\nStudio tools will be available for your use\, but you are welcome to bring your own.\nPlease plan to have your work completed and ready for glaze firing by the end of the course. Techniques of charcoal drawing will be discussed\, and examples of charcoal portraits by such artists as Kathe Kollwitz\, John Singer Sargent\, and others will be looked to for inspiration. Creating a value study\, tips for blending\, choosing the right paper\, and making your own charcoal are just a few of the things we will explore in class. \nPrevious drawing experience is recommended. \nTuition includes all supplies.
