Embroidered Botany: Hand Stitching and Water Soluble Stabilizer

Instructor: Amanda McCavour
Description: Use machine embroidery and a water-soluble stabilizer in a variety of ways to create lace-like structures where stitch holds the piece together. You will use stitch to collage together scraps of fabric, yarn, wool, threads, ribbons, and paper, then you will complete a series of four challenges that will teach you a variety of ways to work with water-soluble fabric and stitching in an experimental way. A sewing machine is required for this workshop. This workshop and the 2021 Contemporary Innovations exhibition is funded, in part, through a grant from Visit Frederick’s Tourism Reinvestment in Promotion & Product (TRIPP) program.
