Intermediate Painting The Figure in Oil

Description: Artists who take on the challenge of the human figure are rewarded with increased expressive potential. Working from a live (nude) model, students will learn to accurately and creatively portray the figure through demonstrations and hands-on practice. Students will learn value-blocking, color mixing, and how to measure proportions and angles, and build creative color palettes. Tuition includes model fee. Materials will be discussed in the first class. A shared supply of paints will be available for students to use the first class. Students should bring to the first class what they already have of the following SUPPLIES: Oil paints Cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow light, ultramarine blue, viridian (or phthalo) green, yellow ochre, burnt umber, titanium white, ivory black. (Winsor & Newton, Grumbacher, or Gamblin oils recommended); #4 round, #6 flat or filbert, #10 flat or filbert brushes; gessoed and stretched canvas: 16x20 or 18x24; a palette and any size sketchbook or notepad. Students under 18 can register for this class with parent permission, subject to the instructor approval upon demonstrating experience in oil painting.
