Intermediate Basket Weaving: Egg Basket

Instructor: Joh Ricci
Description: This workshop meets Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11 from 11:30am-4:30pm. Continue to develop your skills in rib-construction basketry by creating a basket with curved twin bottoms, originally used to collect and carry eggs. Foundational skills and techniques will be enhanced with a focus on shape and weave structure. The "God's Eye" method of lashing will be introduced. Students will learn to create curving ribs that are inserted into the 'eyes' to form the framework on which flat reed is woven in plain weave in an over-one-under-one pattern. Students are encouraged to be inventive in creating a basket with its own personality. Tuition includes basket supplies. Prior rib-constructed basket weaving experience and knowledge is a must. Students should bring the following SUPPLIES: Garden snippers (if you have them); an awl or knitting needle; and a measuring tape. Students should bring snacks, beverages and a bag lunch - or enjoy eateries within walking distance. There is no set time for lunch. Please wear clothing appropriate for working with reed in containers of water.
