Beginning Jewelry I

Description: This class is geared for absolute beginners. Learn the fundamentals of jewelry fabrication to create a forged cuff or form folded bracelet, fold formed or hammered earrings, and a chain necklace. Techniques such as piercing, drilling, sawing, stamping, annealing, and simple soldering will be covered. Ideal for the new or novice jeweler, this class will emphasize safety, tool mastery, and skill development while supporting students through the completion of original jewelry pieces. Students enrolled in jewelry classes must be 17 or older. REQUIRED: Studio waiver (provided in class), safety glasses, disposable foam earplugs, and ventilated respirator. NOTE: Copper and sterling silver sheet and wire are available for purchase at The Delaplaine. Students will need the following supplies to complete projects: (1) 6x12in 18-gauge copper sheets, dead soft; 6x6in 20-gauge copper sheet, dead soft; (20ft) 16-gauge copper wire, dead soft; and (2ft) 20-gauge sterling silver wire, dead soft.
