Visual Journals Workshop 19-2

Description: This workshop meets Saturday, September 15 from 10am-5pm; and Sunday, September 16 from 12-5pm. Learn how to develop and maintain a visual journal practice of your own. Experiment with drawing, painting, collage, image transfers, and other mixed media techniques to construct a personal document of your everyday life. Students will: create personally meaningful work while exploring self-directed themes; experiment with a wide variety of drawing, painting, and collage processes; explore layering using image transfer processes; and experiment with paper manipulation in cutting, folding, and tearing. Activities will include guided and independent practice. Instructor led demonstrations will introduce participants to a variety of materials and techniques. Focus will be placed on forging personal themes and independent lines of inquiry to explore materials and process. Students should bring the following SUPPLIES: A hard bound sketchbook (11x14 inches, Canson brand recommended); General's Sketch & Wash #588 pencil; Prismacolor watercolor pencil Rouge; Uni-ball Vision red fine and black fine pens; Yellow Crayola marker or highlighter; Chartpak blender marker P-0 (201); Sharpie Silver metallic marker; Prang Oval-8 watercolor set; Pencil sharpener; UHU stic glue stick 1.41oz (large). NOTE: Sketchbooks ($27) and Visual Journal Starter Kits ($25) containing all the materials above will be available for purchase in The Delaplaine gift shop. Bring a bag lunch on Saturday or visit eateries within walking distance.
