Painting the Portrait from Life 2018

Description: This 4-day workshop begins Wednesday, August 22 from 3 - 7pm; Thursday- Saturday sessions meet 9:30am - 5:30pm. Students will progress through the stages of portraiture painting, starting with grisaille on toned canvas and then discerning larger forms and planes, developing the image with a quick alla prima technique, and, finally, adding details. During each session, students will also benefit from discussions and demonstrations on color, value, proportion, form, and composition. Tuition includes live model and some shared supplies. Students should bring the following SUPPLIES: *Oil Colors: Raw Umber, Burnt Siena, Crimsom Lake Deep Extra, Permanent Rose, Cadmium Red Deep, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Orange, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Green Pale, Viridian, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Violet (Van Gogh), Dioxazine Purple, Ivory Black, Flake White, Titanium White. *The colors are listed in the order they appear on the palette from left to right. Luis strongly recommends the following brands: Gamblin, Old Holland, Winsor & Newton, Grumbacher, Rembrandt and Van Gogh; Brushes: Bristles: Round #0, 1 and 2. Filbert #2, 3, 6, 10 and 12 Synthetic Sable: Bright #4 and 6; Support / Canvas: Ampersand Gesso Board 16 x 20 or bigger size (it can also be square size ex. 20 x 20) Cotton or linen 16 x 20 or 20 x 24; Medium: Walnut Oil or Linseed Oil Lavender spike oil; Cleaning Materials: Gamsol, Weber Turpenoid, Natural BJ Brush Cleaner and Preserver
