Intermediate Weaving on a Simple Frame Loom

Instructor: Joh Ricci
Description: This workshop meets Saturday, July 21; Sunday, July 22; & Saturday July 28, from 11:30am-4pm each day. Build upon your skills from Weaving on a Simple Frame Loom! Students will gain further knowledge of tapestry weaving techniques and have the opportunity to improve their skills as weavers. Focus will be on inspiration as well as the materials that reflect your personal vocabulary of imagery and shapes. Learn skills to draw from your own experience to create a new piece using colored pencils, designs, colors, and textures. Students will also create 'cartoon' drawings that will be used as a guide for weaving projects. The workshop will include a review of the basics, introduction of new techniques, and one-on-one dialogue about ideas and ways to achieve your weaving goals. Demos, woven work samples, and finishing techniques will also be covered. Prerequisite: Weaving on a Simple Frame Loom. Students should have knowledge of basic tapestry weaving techniques and vocabulary. Bring your frame loom from a previous workshops or one of a different size, already assembled and the following supplies: scissors, any yarns you want to use, sketchbook and pencils, pen and paper for note taking, masking tape, water bottle, and a dowel or mounting rod on July 28 (to be discussed during the workshop); bring a bag lunch or snack for breaks.
