Creative Shapes, Piercing & Forming 18-4

Description: Explore texturing and metal forming in this class geared for intermediate and advanced jewelers. Students will learn about the elasticity and properties of metals, and how to use these properties in forming their projects. Demos will include include pierced designs on domed surfaces with variations. Strengthen your confidence using the saw and torch while completing the following projects: Simple Hinged & Domed Pendant; Stacking Bezel Pendant; and Bezel & Prong Setting Combo Necklace. REQUIRED: Signed studio waiver (provided in class), safety glasses, earplugs, ventilated respirator (3M #8515 recommended). Prerequisite: Beginning Jewelry I or equivalent. Prior oxy/propane torch experience required. Students enrolled in jewelry classes must be 17 or older. Students will need the following SUPPLIES for each project: 1) Simple Hinged & Domed Pendant: 2x2in 22ga copper or sterling silver sheet; 1ft 16ga round wire; 1ft 18ga round wire copper or sterling silver ($7-$26), 2) Stacking Bezel Pendant: 1ft 16ga round wire; 1ft 18ga round wire copper or sterling silver; (3) 8mm round cabochons; 3x8mm round tube settings or (3) 14x10mm oval cabochons; 1ft silver bezel wire, .25x.020in copper or silver ($20-$39), 3) Bezel & Prong Setting Combo Necklace: 2in 4ga square sterling silver wire; 1ft 16ga round wire; 1ft 18ga round wire sterling silver; 1 oval cabochon 14mmx10mm or 18mmx12mm ($40).
