Creative Shapes, Piercing & Forming 18-3

Description: Explore texturing and metal forming in this class geared for intermediate and advanced jewelers. Students will learn about the elasticity and properties of metals, and how to use these properties in forming their projects. Demos will include include pierced designs on domed surfaces with variations. Students will strengthen their confidence using the saw and torch while completing the following projects: 3D Pendant; Stackable Rings; and Charcoal Casting. REQUIRED: Signed studio waiver (provided in class), safety glasses, earplugs, ventilated respirator (3M #8515 recommended). Prerequisite: Beginning Jewelry I or equivalent. Prior oxy/propane torch experience required. Students enrolled in jewelry classes must be 17 or older. Students will need the following SUPPLIES for each project: 3D Pendant: 24-gauge copper or sterling silver sheet (1 x 6 inch); several masonry nails; beads or small round cabochons (optional). Stackable Rings: 14-gauge copper or sterling silver sheet (1.5 x 5.4 inch); cabochons (optional). Charcoal Casting: sterling silver casting grains or clean metal scraps.
