Drawing the Portrait in Pastel

Instructor: Lesa Cook
Description: Working with pastels, students will learn to layer and mix color for convincing flesh tones, creating vibrant portraits. Historical examples, demonstrations and one-on-one instruction will be provided. First class includes an overview, presentation, and demo. Working from a live, clothed model each week, emphasis will be placed on anatomy, proportion, and capturing expression. A great class for students who are ready to explore color in their drawings, and for those transitioning from drawing to painting in oil. Tuition includes model fee and some shared supplies. Students will need the following SUPPLIES: Basic set of 12 pastel pencils (General's Pastel Chalk Pencil set recommended); 1 hard charcoal pencil (2H or 4H); 2 sheets of Canson MiTientes Touch Sanded Paper.
