More Stone Setting, Riveting, & Piercing

Description: Refine your metalsmithing skills in this class geared for intermediate and advanced jewelers. Students will complete 3 projects while learning techniques in riveting, piercing, forming, texturing, and shaping metal. Learn to create cold connections and prong settings through informative demonstrations while reviewing soldering methods and the elements of design. REQUIRED: Signed studio waiver, safety glasses, earplugs, ventilated respirator (3M #8515 recommended). Prerequisite: Beginning Jewelry I or equivalent. Prior oxy/propane torch experience required. Students enrolled in jewelry classes must be 17 or older. Students will need the following SUPPLIES: Project 1: Cut, Texture & Form Bracelet: 16ga or 18ga copper sheet, 6x3in OR 18ga sterling silver sheet, 6x2in (Cost est = $6 -$ 55). Project 2: Riveted Earrings: 20ga copper sheet 3in square; 14ga round copper wire, 1in; and 20ga round sterling silver wire, 1in OR 22ga sterling silver sheet, 2in square; 14ga round sterling silver wire, 3in square; and 20ga round sterling silver wire, 1in (Cost est = $10 - $25). Project 3. Prong Set Pendant: 14ga round copper wire, 1in; 16ga round copper wire, 1in; and 18ga round copper wire, 1in OR 14ga round sterling silver wire, 6in; 16ga round sterling silver wire, 6in; and 18ga round sterling silver, 6 in (Cost est = $10 - $20). The stone needed for this project will be discussed in class allowing plenty of time to place stone orders. NOTE: A limited supply of metal is available for purchase at the Delaplaine.
